Built during the reign of Mrthanda Verma in the 18th century, the temple is a famous religious structure near Alleppey. Characterized by narrow corridors, pent roofs and dormer windows, the temple is much famed for its beautiful mural paintings and superb architectural splendor. The main piece of attraction here is the mural of ‘Gajendra Moksha’ which is the biggest mural paintings of the state. There is also a museum in the temple premises that houses various antique sculptures, paintings, coins and bronzes depicting the historical reminiscence of Kerala.
