Koregad Fort, Lonavala, Maharashtra - Gigantic and massive fort and best for trekkers
Standing still and straight on the calm and isolated hill, well-known for its loneliness, Koregad Fort is also one of the most popular sites in Lonavala. It is located only 24 km away from the Lonavala in the Ambavane village. As per legends and evidence, this fort was constructed by Shivaji Maharaj in 1657. This gigantic fort is placed on an altitude of 3049ft above the sea level and it houses few ponds of fresh water and some small caves also. To reach the fort, there are two entrance gates among which the one has 100 unusual steps and the other one is little bit short route but passes through thick forests and bamboo trees offering a trekking journey.
