Dating back to the 14th century, the Kondapalli Fort is a great historical attraction for the tourists in Vijayawada. The massive fort is built on a hill top and comprises of three stories rock tower and was built by Prolaya vema Reddy of Kondavid for his business and amusement purposes. The fort houses three successive entrance gates and out of which the Dargah Darwaja is the main gate which is 3.7 m wide and 4.6 m high and is made up of single granite block. Another entry gate is called as the Golconda Darwaza and also serves as a gateway to the Jaggaiahpet village near Vijayawada. One of the prime attractions of the fort is the Tanisha Palace located at a crest between two hills. A reservoir is also located inside the fort that has its source in a spring.
