Joshimath is the sacred place located in the region of Garhwal where Adi Guru Shankaracharya established a math or religious center which was named as Jyotirmath. It is also the halting place for the famous pilgrimage site of Badrinath. The town of Joshimath houses a temple dedicated to Narsimha, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
