Among the sacred ghats in Haridwar, it is impossible to forget the name of Gau Ghat. This ghat is located obliquely from Subhash Ghat. Literally, Gau means “Cow” and therefore, the place got its name just because the people visit the ghat to apologize the sins of killing cows. Also, for asking forgiveness at this ghat, people also used to donate cow for the compensating the crime done by them. This is also done strictly by some people as it is believed that killing a cow means to kill one Brahmin. Therefore, it is also one of the main places of interests in Haridwar.
