Five Rathas, Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu - Temple, Architecture, Scenic Beauty

Temple, Scenic

Five Rathas is a superb example of rock-cut temple built in the late 7th century by the Pallavas. These magnificent temples associated with the Mahabharata period showcase a splendid specimen of monolithic Indian stone cut architecture. The temple is comprised of eight Rathas which are named after the five Pandavas, Draupadi and Dharamaraja. The largest of them is the multi storied Dharmaraja Ratha and the smallest one is the Draupadi Ratha. All of these temples are based on the Buddhist chaityas and viharas and are aesthetically carved out of a single piece of huge rock. This temple is also designated as a World Heritage Site and is a never to miss attraction in Mahabalipuram.
