Among the popular tourist destinations in Kenya, Eldoret merits special mention. The gorgeous township of Eldoret is situated in western Kenya and is also the managerial centre of Uasin Gishu District of Rift Valley Province. Situated south of the Cherangani Hills, Eldoret is now the fastest growing township in Kenya. It boasts to be the 5th largest township in Kenya today. The name Eldoret is derived from the Maasai word 'eldore', which accurately means stony river. The river bed of the Sosiani River is very stony; hence the township derives its name. The town came into existance in the year 1910 with the building of a post office on a site, which was well-known to the white settlers as Farm 64, 64 or Sisibo.
