Construction of this highly structured palace which houses two hundred and eighty-five rooms, six baths, forty-six halls, six galleries, and four splendid salons, began in 1846 and lasted nine years and this palace was commissioned by Sultan Abdulmecid I to Armenian architect Garabet Balyan to plan Dolmabahce Sarayi. The sparkling crystal fireplaces, thousands of paintings, vases, and candelabras were all bought in from all over Europe. One gets to witness the glorious gardens that lounge behind the palace. The harem multifaceted, where the reigning sultan's mother, wives, and concubines lived, that resides opposite the administrative wing.
