Den Haag, formally known as Gravenhage, is the Dutch seat of government and home to the royal family. Former to 1806, Den Haag was the Dutch capital. Though, that year, Louis Bonaparte established his government in Amsterdam. Eight years later, when the French had been exiled, the government returned to Den Haag, but the title of capital continued with Amsterdam.Den Haag today is a splendid royal place packed with extravagant embassies and mansions, green avenues and parks, esteemed art galleries, a lip smacking culinary scene, a clutch of appetizing museums, and dazzling nightlife.
