The Chitai Temple is a popular landmark and holy site in the town of Almora. The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Shiva who is locally referred as Lord Gollu. This ancient temple is believed to be constructed by a general of the Chand Dynasty in the 12th century. Surrounded by dense forests of chir pines and mimosa, this hilltop shrine is major religious attraction for the devotees amidst scenic locales of Almora. A number of bells can be seen in the temple premises which are hung by the people as offerings on the fulfillment of their wish.
