The Royal Art and History Museum occupying the south wing of the Palais is split into two main sections: Mediterranean culture from early history to antiquity and Belgian pre- and early history, the history of Christian Europe from the Middle Ages, and Asian and American culture. Some departments are only open on confident days though: antiquities, Islam, Oriental and Christian art on even dates; statuette and ornamental art on odd dates; early Belgian history on Wednesday only. The museum has one of the biggest embroidery collections in the world. They are chiefly examples of the finest work produced in Brussels and the region from the 15th to the 17th centuries.
