Located at a distance of about 20 km from the main town of Chikmagalur, the Ayyanakere Lake is a fascinating attraction for the tourists. It lies amidst serene and scenic surroundings of the Malnad region and is renowned as the second biggest lake in Karnataka. The lake was made in the 12th century to fulfill the fertility requirements of the region and is used by farmers for the irrigation purpose. Moreover, there is a pyramid shaped peak in the vicinity of this lake from where the tourists can enjoy the eye-catching view of sunrise and sunset. Apart from it, the lake also offers various recreational activities for the visitors such as boating, fishing and camping. The Shakhuni Ranganatha Temple is also located nearby the lake.
