Located at a distance of only 5 kms away from city railway station of Guwahati, Assam state zoo is one of the main attractions in Guwahati. This zoo is spreaded over an area of 130 hectares and in 82 hectares of the Zoo, there is a botanical garden. Both of these are more than enough to allure tourists from every nook of the world. In 1982, the botanical garden was established and was successful in doing great collection of more than 44 types of Orchids. The Zoo is totally under the control of the divisional forest officer and is well-maintained too. The Zoo is a home to more than 30 species of wild animals, 358 reptiles and 277 species of the birds. That is why the zoo cum garden is lucky to have loads of tourists every year.
